Herby Lutz Joins Select Sires’ Dairy Sire Team, Jeff Ziegler Promoted
PLAIN CITY, Ohio, September 16, 2008
— Herby Lutz has been chosen to serve as dairy sire analyst at Select Sires. In this role, his responsibilities include leading the Jersey sire program in addition to acquiring elite Holstein genetics in the Southeast region of the United States. Jeff Ziegler, former manager of the protein/specialty sire program, has been promoted to genomics program manager. He will develop and oversee programs to make use of currently available functional genomics tools. Ziegler remains based at the company’s headquarters in Plain City, Ohio, and Lutz is located in Chester, South Carolina.
Lutz most recently served as manager of the Jersey Marketing Service, the cattle marketing branch of the American Jersey Cattle Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in dairy science business production from Clemson University. Lutz and his wife, Amanda, in partnership with his parents, manage the Sunny Day farm under the prefix Her Man, where they have developed some of the world’s most elite Jersey genetics.
Ziegler has been a valuable member of Select’s sire department for nearly 20 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in dairy science from The Ohio State University and has been a dedicated member of the Select Sires family ever since. Because of Select’s increased use of genomic technology, Ziegler will focus on directing the parent-verification testing efforts in Program for Genetic Advancement™ (PGA™) herds and coordinating the Select Sires DNA-testing laboratories and record-keeping centers to maximize the impact of Select’s testing records.
Based in Plain City, Ohio, Select Sires Inc. is North America’s largest A.I. organization and is comprised of 10 farmer-owned and -controlled cooperatives. As the industry leader, it provides highly fertile semen as well as excellence in service and programs to achieve its basic objective of supplying dairy and beef producers with North America’s best genetics at a reasonable price.
