Inaugural Michael Goggin Memorial Scholarships Awarded by Prairie State/Select Sires

PLAIN CITY, Ohio, November 4, 2014 - Prairie State/Select Sires is pleased to award the first Michael Goggin Memorial scholarships to deserving college students from Iowa and Illinois. Michael Goggin was a Prairie State/Select Sires employee for more than 30 years and served as the organization's general manager for 20 years. He retired in June 2009 and passed away in August 2012 after a short retirement. To honor his dedication and devotion to Prairie State/Select Sires, the board of directors has chosen to award up to four scholarships annually to students pursuing advanced degrees in agricultural-related fields. Applicants must also be a family member of a current Prairie State/Select Sires customer.

The 2014 Michael Goggin Scholarship winners are:

  • Cody Sacquitne, a senior at Iowa State University, son of Gary and Nancy Sacquitne of Decorah, Iowa
  • Robert Kerr, a senior at University of Wisconsin-Platteville, son of Bill and Amy Kerr of Elgin, Iowa
  • Reid Aberle, a junior at University of Illinois, son of Pete and Debbie Aberle of Tremont, Ill.
  • Kalli Berning, a senior at North Dakota State University, daughter of Tony and Connie Berning of Galena, Ill.

Applications for the 2015 Michael Goggin Memorial Scholarships will be available on the Prairie State/Select Sires website ( in the spring.
