Mating Guide

The Mating Guide includes sires that are featured in the 2008 Beef Sire Directory. The sires that are listed under a particular trait will provide substantial improvement for that trait in your herd.

Calving Ease--an evaluation of how easily a sire’s calves are born. All sires are evaluated within their own breed for calving ease.

Growth--an expression of the growth performance of a sire’s calves up to weaning and yearling. The sires listed rank in the top 25% of their respective breed for weaning and/or yearling growth.

Frame--an expression of the size, length and overall scale of cattle sired by a particular sire. Sires listed for frame will generally increase the frame size of cattle within their respective breed.

Muscle--an appraisal of the thickness and expressiveness of muscle of a sire’s progeny. Sires listed for muscle will sire cattle with more overall shape and thickness.

Replacement Females--an evaluation that includes the overall quality and productivity of a sire’s daughters as cows. It includes milking ability, growth potential of their calves, calving ease, fleshing ability, udder quality and longevity.

Club Calves--a list of sires that will pass on above average style and eye appeal along with more muscle and width.
