The Architecture
of Success....
    Uddercare Products from Alcide
The Architecture of a Teat Dip should address the critical factors which affect the number of mastitis-causing organisms present on the teat. While at first glance one would assume that the architecture need only address "killing" organisms, further research indicates the architecture must deal with multiple factors in controlling mastitis. The architecture of the dip should take into account environmental conditions and the purpose for which the dip is used: pre-dip only, pre-and post-dip, and/or germicidal barrier protection.

To be most successful, treat dip architecture should address:

  • Efficient and effective killing of all mastitis-causing organisms

  • Conditioning of the teat so that it can be most efficient with its own natural defenses

and because the cow's environment is not a perfect world...

  • Organic material removal capabilities (for pre-dipping routines)

  • Preventing mastitis-causing organisms from accumulating on the teat (in the first place)

  • Sealing the teat end so organisms cannot find their way into the udder
  • The Alcide Germicides

All of these products use chlorous acid, Alcide's highly efficient and effective germicide. This germicide kills all mastitis-causing organisms...bacteria, mycoplasma, and viruses and does it in 15 seconds. Slower acting germicides - like iodines - are inefficient for predipping routines.

    Conditioning Systems

The germicide in Alcide's products is only attracted to, and active on, the cellular structures of mastitis-causing microorganisms. Mammals (like cows and humans) have different cellular structures. The germicides ignore these (they don't attack them ). They allow the teat to remain healthy and supple naturally. Unfortunately, many teat dips not only attack bacteria, they attack teat and milkers' hands. The conditioners in Alcide dips are for conditioning...not hiding irritation!

    Breathable Polymer Barrier

Other barriers in dips can starve the tet of air..sort of like what happens when you put a bandage on a cut finger. UDDERgold®PLUS incorporates a breathable polymer barrier that lets nourishing air get to the teat, but keeps mastitis-causing organisms out. The barrier in UDDERgold Plus not only entraps its germicidal components, but also its twin conditioners. In this way, germicides and conditioners are delivered to the teat during the complete intermilking phase for the maximum in protection and conditioning. The barrier is easily removed during pre-milking teat preparation.

    Teat Canal Sealing

The viscosity (thickness) of UDDERgold PLUS is a perfect for mastitis protection. When applied, UDDERgold Plus is actually "drawn into" the teat canal. This kills the bacteria that have been shown to reside in the teat canal's lining. As the barrier dries, a plug is formed at the teat end which keeps bacteria out. When the cow is prepped for milking, the plug is easily removed.

    Replenish the Cow's Natural "Mantle"

The teat has a natural defensive coating known as an "acid Mantle". The mantle inhibits bacterial growth between milkings. During milking, this mantle is removed...the teat is left exposed. Alcide dips replace this mantle with their activator components. The activators alone are powerful germicides.
